Refining Survey Design and Approach for Accurate Research

        Honing the survey and approach of a research project can be challenging, but it is essential to ensure that the research is as accurate and comprehensive as possible. A few tips to hone the survey and approach are to start with a straightforward research question and make sure the survey is well-designed. Also, test the survey with a small group of people and get feedback on it. Finally, Analyze the data carefully to draw the correct conclusions.

Supportive literature:

           In the previous discussions, I have chosen some literature that will be useful to me in conducting field surveys & questionnaires in the same field of research in construction pollution. But it will not cover all the information needed to do the fundamental research, as I lack a lot, but I believe that I need some of the following literature to crystallize my research in the near future (Ware & Mabe, 2015):

  • Scientific journals: which have information about (air pollution, water pollution, and noise pollution).
  • Government reports: which have (emissions standards, permitting requirements, and enforcement actions).
  • Industry reports: which have (best practices, new technologies, and financial incentives).
  • News articles: which have (new research findings, government policies, and industry initiatives).
  • Books: which have a comprehensive overview of the issue and insights from experts in the field.
  • Websites: which have up-to-date information on the latest research, government policies, and industry initiatives.

Type of design:

        I will choose the Mixed-methods design that uses quantitative and qualitative data. This type of design is often used in research focused on gaining a deeper understanding of a topic (Guba, 2008). Choosing the type of survey will be done according to several factors, the most important of which are: The purpose of my research, the research question(s), the research participants, the budget & the time frame (Trochim, 2020).

Reliability and validity of the survey:

        A reliable survey will produce similar results when administered to the same group of people on different occasions. Therefore, using clear and concise questions, a consistent format & pretesting the survey could be powerful methods to reach the reliability of the survey. On the other hand, a valid survey will measure what it is supposed to measure. Therefore, using a representative sample, unbiased questions, and a variety of question types could also be powerful methods to reach the validity of the survey (Pew Research Center, 2019).

Conclusion

        In my research, I will use a variety of data collection methods. I will not rely on just one data collection method, such as a survey. Instead, I will use various ways, such as interviews and document analysis, to comprehensively understand my topic. Also, I will be open to new information that may challenge my original research question or hypotheses. This further information can help me to refine my research question and to develop a more comprehensive understanding of your topic.
